      situated just south of Toulouse,

             near the town
                Villefranche-de-Lauragais

in the region Midi-Pyrénées in the Haute-Garonne department. This is the largest region in France and it is packed with wonderful features, from natural and architectural gems to fantastic traditions and gastronomy. The Languedoc-Roussillon region
       just next door, with it's

   Beautiful coastline, sandy beaches

 and plentyfold of vineyards.
Along the coast, several places are worth visiting, such as Sète, the Venice of Languedoc, and Portiragnes, a beautiful, long and wild beach close to Beziers and only 1½ hours drive from the castle

Carcassonne

               one of several other

medieval cities in the region

Carcassonne, the largest walled medieval town in Europe with 52 towers and 3km of wall, where one of these towers housed the Catholic Inquisition in the 13th Century and is still known as "The Inquisition Tower".

The fortified city, which is on UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Close by you also find the city of Castelnaudary which is the 'capital' of the French dish Cassoulet.
